For details about courses: englishcouncil@freeuk.com The English Council runs and promotes regular teacher training courses in: From little acorns, many a large and strong English Oak tree have grown. So it is with all the Teachers - Schools and Guardians that are registered with the English Council, they too will grow from strength to strength and thus help to protect and preserve the English language and culture for all in the future, maintaining it as a strong linguistic core base to help and promote all the varieties of English being taught and used throughout the world today, collectively forming the world language, ("Worldlish") IntroTESOL - NQ -TESOL - SAL TEFL: Teacher /Teaching English as a foreign language (not considered politically correct) TESOL: Teacher / Teaching English as a Second or Other Language English Council IntroTESOL course: English Council TESOL-Cert course: NQS-TESOL: Native Quality speaking Teacher of English as a Second or Other Language. English Council DipNQS-TESOL course: SAL: Social Activity Leader. English Council Social-Activity Leader Certificate course - EC-SAL: Introduction to TESOL course: this course is for people who wish to find out more about Teaching English as a Second or Other Language - before committing themselves to the expense and time of a full English language teaching qualification course. Completion of this course will qualify you as a teaching assistant for ESOL in all English Council registered schools and many others. This course is also suitable if you are a student thinking of taking a year out before or during university or taking a summer job in the field of TESOL. The English Council Introduction to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages English Council IntroTESOL course: this course is designed for the trainee with no experience of teaching English as a second language and who wishes to discover his/her own aptitude and suitability before committing him/hersef to the expense and length of a full English language teaching qualification course. Completion of this course will qualify you as a Teaching Assistant for ESOL in all English Council registered schools and many others. This course is also suitable if you are a student thinking of taking a year out before or during university or taking a summer job in TESOL. Trainees must be at least eighteen years old and at this stage they must demonstrate a good level of spoken English, whether or not English is their first language. The course is designed to equip trainees with the basic skills and knowledge needed to give them a firm foundation for self-evaluation & further professional development. It must be stressed that this is an initial pre-qualification course only. On completion of this course trainees will have enough insight of TESOL to be able to decide whether they wish to continue. For trainees to continue on to level two they must first have completed all assignments, projects and tests of the level one course, to the standard set by the English Council Examination Board. The IntroTESOL course consists of five two hour lessons plus five assignments allowing trainees an insight into all aspects of a fully certificated course: 1. Language awareness; an overview of all aspects of grammar and phonology. 2. Teaching awareness; methodology, classroom management, techniques & record keeping. 3. Materials compilation; planning, producing and evaluating classroom teaching materials 4. Learner profile; linguistic profile and needs analysis for students. 5. Unknown language; experiences and feelings of a learner of a foreign language. English Council TESOL-Cert course: This course is for people who have completed the foundation course or one of equal value and wish to proceed as a fully qualified teacher of English in England or over seas. The English Council Level two course is a full Certificate TESOL course: This course is for people who have completed the EC foundation course Level one, or one similar and wish to proceed as a fully qualified teacher of English in England or over seas. Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. EC Cert TESOL. Completion of this course will open up many opportunities, both here and abroad for you to take up your first post as a teacher of English and will give you a firm foundation for self-evaluation and further professional development. To qualify for the EC Cert TESOL, trainees must attend the course with full commitment and complete all assignments, including teaching practice both here in England and in Spain, to the required standard set by the English Council's Examination Board. Trainees must be at least eighteen years old and at this stage they must demonstrate a high level of spoken English, with the ability to explain and model it to others, whether or not English is their first language. The course is designed to equip trainees with the a good grounding in all the skills and knowledge needed to give them the ability to teach children, adults and even teenagers English whether they are advanced and need extra help or are complete beginners. On completion of this course trainees will receive a certificate of TESOL along with a checkable record of actual teaching practice (the most valuable aspect of any TESOL course) . The EC Cert TESOL course consists of twenty 2- hour lessons, ten assignments plus two weeks in Spain teaching in three different schools, teaching both junior and adult classes. 1. Part One of the course is a follow on from the foundation course, with a more in-dept look at all aspects of ESOL,. taking you through all you will need to know, step by step, and allowing you to put it into practice. 2. Part Two consists of five hours of observed/monitored classroom time. Teaching Speakers of Other Languages. Lesson planning and monitor feedback. 3. Part Three consists of ten hours of classroom time. Teaching Speakers of Other Languages, both one-to-one and mixed classes, with lesson planning & student feedback. 4. Part Four consists of two weeks in Spain, teaching in three different schools, teaching : a. children in a state school, in mixed ability groups, for two weeks, mornings only. b. adults in assessed level groups, for one week in the evenings only. c. classes of adults, teenagers & children in separate classes, for one week, evenings only 5. Part Five will be a full and detailed report on your teaching experience, both here in England & in Spain. English Council DipNQS-TESOL course: This course is for people who have completed the certificate course or one of equal value, plus having a native speaker's quality of English and having undertaken a set amount of teaching hours within the world of ESOL. The English Council Level three course is a full Diploma TESOL course: This course is for people who have completed the EC certificate course Level Two, or one similar and wish to become a fully qualified teacher trainer or Director of Studies in England or over seas. Teaching teachers to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages. ECDipNSTESOL. Completion of this course will open up many opportunities, both here and abroad, for you to take up any post as a teacher of English or as a Director of Studies or Teacher Trainer To qualify for the ECDipNSTESOL, trainees must attend the course with full commitment and complete all assignments, including any teaching practice, to the required standard set by the English Council's Examination Board. Trainees must be at least twenty one years old and at this stage they must demonstrate a high level of spoken English, to a native speaker standard with the ability to explain and model it clearly to others, whether or not English is their first language. Trainees must have a verifiable record of at least 1000 hours of teaching ESOL (paid or voluntary) including experience of teaching all levels and all ages of students, in bilingual and multi-lingual classes. The course is designed to equip trainees with the a good grounding in all the skills and knowledge needed to give them the ability to teach children, adults and even teenagers English whether they are advanced and need extra help or are complete beginners. On completion of this course trainees will receive a Diploma of NSTESOL along with a checkable record of actual teaching practice (the most valuable aspect of any TESOL course). 1. Part one: is a complete review of all teaching methods in ESOL plus your ability to use them effectively and be able to teach them to others who are teaching or wish to teach ESOL. 2. Part two: consists of 5 assignments on various aspects of the nature & use of English a. To show an understanding of the main features of modern English. b. To be able to discuss in detail ways of teaching English as a second language c. To demonstrate understanding of how speech sounds are formed. d. To show understanding of how approaches to language learning & teaching have developed. e. To demonstrate awareness & understanding of the role & status of English in the world 3. Part three: consists of demonstrating full and comprehensive understanding of spoken English, in particular on the phonetics & phonology of English and the ability to teach it. 4. Part four: consists of a demonstration of classroom teaching. a. Trainees are required to teach a 45 minute lesson in the presence of an EC examiner. b. To discuss with the examiner the details of the teaching procedures. 5. Part five: To demonstrate the ability to plan and prepare lessons, learning programmes and working procedures and management of a teaching establishment.
English Council Social-Activity Leader Certificate course - EC-SAL: This course is for people who wish to become Activity Leaders. The course gives you an insight and necessary training for all activities outside of the classroom. Part one: Planning and preparing activities - all aspects of health and safety - all aspects of finance and payment. Part two: Basic first aid certificate Part three: Lifesaving certificate The English Council is a relatively new association, formed in 2000. Its main aim is to promote & encourage the teaching of spoken English to facilitate its primary function - communication. Speech is the fastest method of communication between people, but it's all too often the case that people supposedly speaking the same language, in this case English, do not understand each other, because of: accent, dialect or just poor pronunciation. To this aim we maintain that the Queen's English is the core base of the English language. All other forms of English will be respected but the main aim of the English Council is to standardise its use for as many students as possible. |
