To understand about the future of English we have to study the past.

What was the English language? The language of the people of England. The word England meaning 'the land of the Angles'. The Angles were one of the three tribes (for want of a better word ) whoes languages is one of the three on which English is based, descended from the Indo-Germanic or Aryan family of languages spoken since c.3000BC by the nomads of the Great Lowland Plain of Europe, which stretches from the Aral Sea in what was the Soviet Union to the Rhine in what was West Germany.
